The Threadlift
In the past, facelifts have been a major procedure that required a long recovery period and surgical risks in order achieve positive results. They have been associated with high risk, high cost, and ultimately the chance of that tell-tale "pulled back" look. However, major advances in cosmetic surgery have been made in recent years, and there are now less-invasive, less risky, and less expensive procedures with little down-time, like the Threadlift. The technique is quickly becoming the facelift of the times among younger, busy people that want subtle "preventative" procedures without having to take much time to achieve it. The Threadlift is an office-based suture suspension facelift procedure. It uses fine surgical threads to lift the droopy areas of the brow, cheeks, jowl and neck. The lift effects are immediate and the risk and recovery are minimal.
Who is a good candidate?
Threadlift facelifts are not for everybody, mainly used to lift the brows, cheeks, jowls and neck. A good candidate is someone who is starting to see some droopiness in these areas and would like to see a lift effect, but do not want the risk, scars, or recovery of a traditional brow lift, facelift or neck lift operation. You must have realistic expectations and be prepared to follow post-procedure recovery protocol. Poor candidates are those with unrealistic expectations, uncontrolled medical illnesses that affect wound healing, are grossly overweight or excessively thin.
How does the Threadlift work?
Small punctures are made within the hairline or behind the ear and threads are inserted under the skin. The thread is anchored at two points, one fixed and one mobile, to offer natural, long lasting results.
How is this procedure different from other Threadlifts?
Other threadlift procedures, like the Aptos and Feather-lift, utilize sutures in adipose tissue (fat) that is not a good structure for support. These are easy procedures to teach, but do not have the longevity of the suture suspension face lift.
What areas can be treated?
Does the procedure hurt and are there any risks?
This procedure is most often performed under local anesthesia so you are awake and aware, but there is no pain. It usually takes one to two hours to perform and you may return home within one hour post-procedure. Like any procedure using a needle, there is the risk of bruising and/or swelling, but most patients look presentable with makeup within several days. Your physician will discuss the rare complications that can occur, such as infection, and how these complications are managed.
When will I see results and how long will they last?
The results are immediate. There is a noticeable elevation and contour shaping of the brow, cheek, jowl and neck. Remember that after any type of facelift procedure, the process of aging still continues. With no adjunctive treatments, the results of the Threadlift will likely last several years.
What if I want a surgical facelift in the future?
The Threadlift procedure does not interfere in any way with subsequent cosmetic surgery of the brow, lids, cheeks, jowl or neck. You need only disclose to your surgeon that you had a prior Threadlift.
